While reluctant, we will look at the Nikon Coolpix S3000 out of a sense of fairness and because they have made improvements. Because they have been around for awhile, Nikon has earned the right to some respect. The inexpensive price tag on this ultra-compact camera make it a good option for those with less of a budget. But the S3000 is, unfortunately, average or slightly above average. It has all the standard features you would expect with 12 megapixels, etc. Disappointingly, the LCD is difficult to see when in the sunlight. This camera looks cheaply made because it is mostly plastic with only metal buttons and power switch. The image quality is nothing to get excited about either as we felt it was just average. You will get the job done with this camera but it is meant specifically for a certain budget.
As far as cameras go, Canon offers the PowerShot SD750, which is a great camera all around. You’ll find a solid digital camera that includes greater than average movie quality plus face detection, of course. Photographs produced by this camera represent high ISO quality. For those looking for an ultra-compact camera that features a large LCD display it’s hard to beat this particular camera. People who prefer not to look through the viewfinder to snap photos but wish to use the LCD display instead are the perfect market for this camera. The fact that this 3 inch screen may be a little coarse for some tastes is eclipsed by the fact that it can be viewed in the sun.
It may be difficult trying to make a follow up on a great product, but many camera makers would love to have that particular problem. Finding a great camera for any spec, application, or budget is possible. You can find cameras as cheap as the low hundreds or for as much as $500 or more. Why you need the camera is an important part of finding the right one. Once you know that answer, you can start researching cameras that will meet that need.
